Where does it happen?
At home, of course – but also at work and play – always! That raises an obvious question: What about church? Shouldn’t it be the center of any good Christian’s spiritual life? Actually, the church is the place where Christians are equipped to do the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:11-13). Why? Because most of the folks who need our ministry lie outside the walls of the church.
While it’s a great idea to invite someone to church on a Sunday so that they can learn about following Christ, sometimes it’s a lot more important to invite them into our homes so they can see what it looks like to follow the Lord from Monday through Saturday.
The Bible depicts the home as a place of hospitality, where outsiders are welcomed and cared for (Matthew 25:37-40, Hebrews 13:2). Remember, it’s also the place where faith is passed from generation to generation (Deuteronomy 6:1-9, 2 Timothy 1:5). Many different kinds of people, our neighbours, our family, and even relative strangers can experience the love that God pours out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5) in one very special place—the home. Your home.
Does that sound a little scary to you? It does to some people, because it means that Faith@Home isn’t a program with a definite beginning and end traversed by a series of concrete steps. It’s more like a thread running through all of life and ministry.
